Choosing fabric and design for a Colorful Baby Puff Quilt
Arranging both patterned and solid fabrics in a “random” fashion is a timeless and charming quilt idea. In this design shown, there are 7 unique fabrics.

Tips for making your quilt design feel “random”
- Use more than 5 types of cotton fabric
- Use solids and print fabrics
- Avoid “even” varieties of fabrics.
- Choose one fabric to dominate. One to be second dominate, and the rest as small accents in different amounts. This will naturally help your quilt come together “random.”
- The “random” quilt style came out of necessity of our ancestors using whatever textiles they had on hand. Check your stash for fabrics.
- Be open to making changes as you sew or if you get mix up along the way.
- It’s okay to put two of the same color next to each other! Variety is key and just like nature.
- Be playful and enjoy mixing and matching the prints.

Cutting Fabric for Baby Puff Quilt
Square sizes:
Top Fabric : 3.5 inch
Bottom (Scrap Fabric): 3 inch
Backing:
The backing will need to be cut 2-4 inches larger than your puff quilt. I recommend cotton fabric for baby and anything made for nurseries. I also recommend 2 layers of batting for more cushion.
